Project Challenge of Long Beach

We organize volunteers and local churches to help Long Beach families who need a hand, whether that's a Thanksgiving dinner, a free night out with the kids, or help with a bill during a hard month.

What we do

November

Thanksgiving baskets

Volunteers collect donated food, pack baskets with a full holiday meal, and deliver them to Long Beach families who would otherwise go without.

Winter

Winter Wonderland

A free festival for local families with games, food, and activities for kids. No tickets and no cost to attend.

Warm months

Community barbecues

Free cookouts open to the whole neighborhood. Come eat, meet the people on your block, and find out what's going on in town.

Throughout the year

Open mic nights

An open stage for local musicians, poets, and performers. Anyone can sign up, and anyone can come listen.

Help for families in a hard month

We're launching a partnership with CarePortal, a national network that connects churches with children and families in crisis.

  1. Step 1A school social worker or caseworker meets a Long Beach family with a specific need, like a bed for a child, groceries, or a past-due utility bill.
  2. Step 2They post the need to CarePortal, and the request comes to us.
  3. Step 3Our volunteers meet the need directly.

Who we are

Project Challenge of Long Beach Incorporated is a New York not-for-profit corporation, formed on November 4, 2024.

We work alongside People's Church of Long Beach, which hosts our events at 111 Delaware Avenue and supports our programs. Volunteers run every program. No one on our board is paid.

Get involved

Most of what we do happens because a neighbor shows up. Here's where we need people:

  • Packing and delivering Thanksgiving baskets
  • Donating food for the baskets
  • Setting up and running Winter Wonderland
  • Grilling or serving at a barbecue
  • Performing at an open mic
  • Meeting a CarePortal need

If you know a family who could use help, tell us. We'll keep it private.
